Brief introduction of PI and the laboratory\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0Structural defects within the internal elastic lamina (IEL) have been directly implicated in the initiation of intimal thickening in human arteries and a major contributing factor leading to arterial disease such as atherosclerosis, stroke, aortic dissection and aortic aneurysms. One of the objectives of our laboratory is to identify the major genetic factors leading to arterial disease and provides evidence of a causative role of novel gene(s) in the development of spontaneous aortic internal elastic lamina rupture. Coronary artery aneurysms (CAA) has been associated with some Kawasaki disease (KD) children. KD is an autoimmune disease where the manifestations of disease are\u00a0mainly caused by the inflamed medium-sized blood vessels throughout the body. We thus collaborated with various medical research centers to determine the genetic factor(s) for CAA in KD patients. Our second research interest is using one of the lysosomal storage diseases as a model to investigate how small molecular chaperones can stabilize mutant proteins and facilitate their trafficking to lysosomes and thus offers a possible therapeutic strategy to this disease. We are currently developing a cell-based screening plate form for PTTG1 inhibitors, we have currently establishing the monoclone cell-line and at the stage of verification.<\/p>\n
