Dream Big and Fly High with Tzu Chi University

Diwali Celebration

Tzu Chi’s campus is among the most beautiful in Taiwan; it sits in the heart of Hualien, a beautiful metropolitan city, rich in cultural diversity. With a spacious campus filled with green areas, Tzu Chi University provides well-equipped teaching facilities and a comfortable, graceful living environment. We sponsor various student associations and provide a wonderful research atmosphere.

TCU Goals

Our goal is to prepare professionals who are committed to lifelong learning, analytical and critical thinking, and working with others; moreover, prepare those who embrace the spirit of Tzu Chi Humanities and are willing to tend to those in need.

Master Cheng Yen said,” Education is the work of purifying each person’s heart, the hope and a stabilizer of our society.” Thus, Tzu Chi University emphasizes the following:

  1. Daily Life Education: To be mindful in dining, dressing, walking, and living and to acknowledge the humanity in every person.
  2. Virtue Education: Respect teachers, hold acceptable behavior, and be a faithful and responsible person.
  3. Humanities Education: Develop a spirit of contentment, gratitude, understanding, and accommodation.
  4. Appreciation for Education: Nurture students to carry out regular responsibilities and devote themselves to help others.

Teaching

Tzu Chi University classes create an intimate environment and foster conversation; the ration of faculty to students is maintained around 1:10.

Small classes enhance interaction between professor and students, with equal emphasis on lecturing and discussion. The university encourages students to be self-motivated in learning.

To enhance the student’s learning and to encourage them to interact with professors, TCU provides multimedia educational systems, the university also employs Interactive Response Systems for professors to teach vividly and create two-way communication.

TCU also encourages professors to follow passions and allocates funds for research and assists with various campus projects.

Student Life

Impression of exchange student
I feel really lucky to get a chance to do an exchange program with Tzu Chi University. 12 students from SRM University went to TCU to do our final year project in different departments.

I worked with Prof. Ingrid Liu, department of Molecular Biology and Human Genetics. It was really a wonderful experience; I gained more knowledge and practical experience. Every week we use to have discussion and exchange of ideas with professor and lab mates. The animal centre and library have all the facilities we needed for our research. Lab facilities are much updated and I was able to get more experience with new technologies and research.

We also had Chinese language training and cultural programs like tea ceremony and flower arranging classes, which were unique and amazing experience for us. Apart from academic part, we had many activities like international week celebrations, Budha ceremony, interaction with Tzu Chi volunteers and many other student activities. TCU encourage student in both academic and extra-curricular activities. Beside all these, the beauty of the campus and Taiwan is breath-taking. The campus is very clean and friendly for all the foreign students. Taiwan is a very friendly and safe country, truly a Formosa.

TCU provide all kinds of support and guidance at any time. We all felt near to home at TCU. We were able to gain lot of good experience and research knowledge with short time itself. It was really a pleasure and proud be in TCU. All the facilities were more than what we expect, and they also provide scholarships to encourage students. Our experience was wonderful and I would like to thank TCU for this wonderful experience.
